Staged Supply

Kings Park Pharmacy provides a Staged Supply Service for patients prescribed certain medications. This involves supplying the medication in separate instalments over time, rather than dispensing the full prescription amount at once.

This service is aimed at patients who may benefit from a structured approach to taking their medication, for reasons such as:

• Addictive medications - The staged supply helps limit access to addictive medications and reduce the risk of misuse.
• New medications - Staged supply can help patients adjust to any side effects from a new medication by starting with a small initial dose and gradually increasing.
• Complex medication regimes - Breaking up a full prescription into stages can make it easier for patients to follow a complex dosing schedule.

The pharmacy dispenses the medication in agreed instalments, typically daily, weekly or fortnightly. The staged supply program is developed in consultation with the patient's prescriber and tailored to the individual patient's needs. The pharmacy also provides counselling and education to patients on their medication as part of the service.
